In-School Youth Programs:

Bradford County Action’s In-School program is available to eligible youth ages 14-21 years of age who reside in Bradford County.

Students must be eligible to receive services.

Project Help Tutoring

  • A student’s schedule is coordinated through the school district and tutoring is done during school hours.
  • Student career goals are addressed to see if other B.C.A. programs can assist the student with the achievement of employment goals.

Career Decision Making, Labor Market Information and Job Exploration

  • Individualized time frames.
  • Can be done alone or in conjunction with the Project Help tutoring program.
  • Assists students with the exploration of their chosen career choices and with career opportunities in Bradford County; incorporates adult mentoring and field trips to area training facilities and businesses.

Work Experience

  • Individualized according to the availability of worksites and student access to the sites. Year round work experiences incorporate leadership development opportunities which include reinforcement of social behavior, decision making, team work and other activities. Adult mentoring is also an aspect of these experiences and all site supervisors are provided with training to promote work maturity concepts.
  • Summer only employment opportunities are also available. These work experiences are for the summer only and do not extend into the school year.
  • Work experiences can be year round or summer only.
  • Work experiences can be paid or unpaid.
  • Internships and job shadowing opportunities are available and developed as necessary and appropriate to meet student needs.
  • There are two types of work experiences:
    • Crew work Site Experiences – Crew worksites are supervised by Bradford County Action staff. These sites are ideal for beginning workers or at risk youth who may need a great deal of supervision. The sites often provide meaningful community service projects that promote a sense of pride and ownership for the youth that participate.
    • Single Placement Work site Experiences – Single placement worksites can be at non-profit or for profit sites and are supervised by a regular worker of the placement site. The ideal single placement site provides meaningful vocational experience (such as clerical training), however many also provide beginning workers with valuable work maturity skills.

Job Search Assistance

  • Individualized or group settings.
  • Curriculum designed to assist participants with resume writing, interview skills, cover letters, and job leads.
  • Group classes are available at B.C.A. Individual appointments with employability staff are available. Appointments may be scheduled at the school for the convenience of the student.

Job Retention Services

  • Budgeting and lifeskills strategies are designed to assist students with employment planning.
  • Information regarding childcare and transportation services available in Bradford County are provided when necessary.
  • Employer/employee early intervention contacts can be made to encourage job retention.

Follow Up Case Management

  • Guidance for participation in programs is provided to those who enroll.
  • Follow up and information about possible support services is also provided on an individualized basis as appropriate for students.
