GED:

GED Classes are available to anyone regardless of income. Interested individuals should call Bradford County Action to sign up. All new students attend an initial information and assessment class at which the times and days of the week that classes are currently available are given. New students may begin as soon as they have completed this initial class. Available to anyone 17 years and older.

What is the GED?
GED stands for the Tests of General Education Development and is a national examination developed by the GED Testing Service of the American Council on Education. The diploma issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for passing the test is widely recognized by colleges, training schools, and employers as equivalent to a high school diploma.

Am I eligible to take the GED tests?
If you left high school without graduating and are at least 17 years of age or older, you are eligible to take the GED tests. Results will be received in approximately six weeks. However, an actual GED diploma is received only if you are 18 years or older or if your high school class has graduated.

Retesting:
An applicant who did not successfully complete the tests may take a retest.

An applicant need not take the entire test, but may choose to take one or more of the subjects to acquire the score necessary to qualify for the diploma.

To qualify for a diploma, an applicant must take a retest if any subtest score is below 410.

How should I prepare for the tests?
Bradford County Action, Inc. has classes specifically geared to the GED tests. These classes are offered at various sites in Bradford County during the school year. GED classes are available during the entire year in Towanda.

The classes meet for two to four hours once or twice a week. They are informal and small in size to allow for individual, personalized attention. Students set their own timeline for GED preparation and can focus on individual areas of need. All sections of the GED test are covered using lectures, videos, class discussion, and hands-on computer lessons. Additional GED materials may be obtained from the local library, or bookstore.
